It’s that time of year already. The leaves are changing, South Dakotans are busting out their flannel and local shops are putting pumpkin in everything. South Dakota families are also trekking to local pumpkin patches and apple orchards to wade through fields of vines and fruits to capture the perfect pieces for their mantle, doorstep, or classroom.

Queer families in South Dakota are no different. Yet, sometimes it feels like we may not be as welcome in the same spaces with our friends and neighbors.

“All families should be able to experience the magic of a Midwest fall day. We hope that Family Day at the Farm gives people a safe space to get their fall festivity fun and not worry about anything else. We're proud to sponsor this event, and hopefully many more to come!” Said Rachel Polan, Marketing Director at Sioux Falls Pride

All are welcome to join Equality South Dakota, the Transformation Project Advocacy Network, and Sioux Falls Pride who are carving out their own piece of the autumn event schedule in South Dakota with Family Day at the Farm at Nom Nom Gardens.

"Whether you've got family coming along, you're bringing your chosen family, or you're on the lookout for one, we will be excited to spend time getting to know you and enjoying the gorgeous fall weather together!" Said Susan Williams, Executive Director of the Transformation Project Advocacy Network

This family friendly event features freshly picked pumpkins for the taking and decorating, popcorn, hot apple cider, custom poetry by Shane Fischer, pride swag from vendors, and more. Funds raised from the event support education and advocacy efforts by the event partners.

“We hope that Family Day at the Farm shows the 30,000+ LGBTQ+ folks in South Dakota that there is a community for them. We want them to know that there are organizations out here fighting for their right to thrive.” Said Adam Jorgensen, Chair of Equality South Dakota.
