What is RSS?

RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication," and is a modern-day version of having the newspaper brought to your doorstep. Sites like this one for Equality South Dakota, use RSS as a means of public distribution for the news that they publish on their web site. RSS uses an HTML-like format called XML to distribute the information in a simple, organized and standardized way.

Because RSS is standardized, content from a variety of sources can be identically displayed in a single location, using a piece of software called an aggregator.
